Very occasionally, the key you transpose into might be an enharmonic equivalent. For example, a Bb clarinet part originally in the key of Gb major, will end up in Fb major if you transpose it down a major 2nd into concert pitch. It makes no sense to write something in Fb major, when you could write it in E major instead.

In cases like this, the actual interval of transposition will be different – Gb-E is a diminished 3rd. Look at the key signature on the answer stave before you begin!

In this example, the Bb clarinet part is in Gb major and the answer stave has a key signature for E major.
